The Naperville Century Walk board of directors has begun its search for a project administrator and artists to create murals, sculptures, mosaics and other public works of art in downtown Naperville.
Request for proposal forms for anyone interested in administering the program and applications for artists, artist assistants and volunteers may be obtained by calling (630) 355-5555 or (630) 369-6348.
Century Walk was established last year to create public art throughout Naperville's downtown and adjacent areas. .The art is to be a tribute to 20th-century life in Naperville, including a portrayal of the community's significant people, places and events.
In the first year, three works of art were designed and dedicated -- a mural depicting the city's publishing history, sculptural tribute to the Naperville Municipal Band and mosaic lounge chairs celebrating the Kroehler Furniture Factory.
Three additional projects are budgeted for 1997 and will be completed by September.
Suggestions may be mailed to Century Walk, P.O. Box 133, Naperville 60566-0133.
Century Walk is funded by the City of Naperville through hotel and motel taxes, an Illinois Arts Council grant and private donations.
