  • Plaque Text: For almost 60 years, Theodor Seuss Geisel delighted millions worldwide with his fanciful and often surreal worlds. His unbridled creativity in writing and illustrating 44 books for children and his ability to touch the imaginations of people everywhere goes unmatched within the 20th century art world. In fact, "Green Eggs and Ham," first published in 1960, is the third largest-selling book in the English language. It is then appropriate that this nine foot tall sculpture of Dr. Seuss' book character, Sam-I-Am, be located here at the 95th Street Library. This is the first of twelve sculptures that were commissioned to celebrate Geisel's legacy as an artist and illustrator.
