Title: The Way We Were

Artist: Marianne Lisson Kuhn and Lisa Netzley-Hopkins

Location: Benton Ave. and Washington St.

Medium: Mural

Installation Date: 2005

Description: A mural fondly looking at Naperville businesses in the 1960's.

Plaque Text: If you remember buying your first "transistor" at Scott's Dime Store, a used car from Netzley's Chrysler-Plymouth, or the irresistible aroma from Andy's Popcorn Stand, chances are you were a Napervillian in the sixties. It's likely you or someone from your family worked at Kroehler Manufacturing Company, farmed land presently occupied by a neighborhood subdivision, or went to the only high school in town. For entertainment you probably went to the Naper Theater, The Beach, Sport's Bowl, or a Municipal Band Concert in Central Park. Perhaps you shopped in one of the family-owned businesses established in the 1800s, like Beidelman Furniture or Oswald's Pharmacy. If you remember a quieter, simpler Naperville, that's because the under 13,000 population of 1960 made it so.
